An Post
wins award for Billpay.ie at world mail awards 2003.
An Post were the winners of the e-Messaging award
(sponsored by ErgoIDP) for its Electronic Business Exchange
(eBX) electronic bill presentation and payment system with
a secure payment module.
An Post beat off tough international competition to take a premier
award at the prestigious World Mail Award ceremony in Amsterdam.
An Post was one of three postal operators shortlisted in the e-Messaging
category of the competition and won the award for Billpay.ie, its
electronic bill presentment and payment system. Posten Sverige AB
of Sweden, for its hybrid mail services provided for the Estonian
market and the US Postal Service, for its electronic-to-paper mail
preparation and delivery service, were the runners up in the category.
The award was designed to highlight the e-messaging services that
have been implemented by mail operators around the world. Customer
take-up and added value products and services were important considerations
for the judging panel which also looked for the level of application
and the degree of integration of the entries.
The World Mail award scheme, now in its third year, is designed
to encourage and communicate best practice within the global mail
industry and recognises the critical part mail plays in global trade
and communication. The awards are judged by a prestigious panel
of industry experts. Nearly 100 entries were submitted in the seven
categories in this year's competition. The Billpay.ie site was designed
and developed by PCI, the wholly owned e-commerce solutions subsidiary
of An Post. Launched in 2000, Billpay.ie offers internet based electronic
bill presentment on behalf of eircom, O2 and Chorus as well as electronic
bill payment services on behalf of all the major utilities. The
site has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2000,
with over 32,000 customers now using Billpay.ie to pay their bills.
Declan Byrne, general manager of Business Development, Post Offices
Division and John Cronin, managing director of PCI attended the
awards ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of An Post. "It
was a bit like the Oscars," said John Cronin. "We were
stunned and delighted to have won against such competition,"
he said. Declan Byrne commented: "The recognition shown by
the international mail industry with this award proves that An Post
is a market leader in providing innovative services to its customers.
BillPay.ie represents a great opportunity for An Post to develop
its e-commerce infrastructure and we will be announcing new services
on the site in the coming weeks." Log on to www.Billpay.ie
